Is your pit latrine or septic tank full? Are you afraid of incurring costs paid to gulpers or cesspool operators so you are thinking of using chemical additives? Maybe you should not move so fast.

In a bid to cut on pit emptying costs, many people use latrine cleaning chemicals/additives which slightly reduce the sludge volume by separating liquids from solids, resulting in a lower volume of more solid sludge.

This, however, becomes even more expensive in the long run as the solids like poop and non-degradable rubbish are clogged together turning into a hard solid mass.

This, therefore, means it will cost you even more when the pit eventually fills up as gulpers will have to add up more drums of water to soften the sludge. In some cases, people even simply give up on emptying their pits and instead construct new ones.

So think twice before using additives. If you choose to empty your pit, Fresh Pit has lots of offers we can give you so you can have a healthy facility.
